ABC's upcoming take-off on William Shakespeare's 'Romeo & Juliet' is set in the present, in Venice, California. The series is called 'Venice' and is about a forbidden romance between Venice's two most powerful, rival families. the Nances and the Carvers. As of today, the Nance side of the equation has been mostly cast.
Bruce Greenwood ('The River,' 'Flight') will play the patriarch of the Nance clan, the most powerful man in Venice. Odette Annable ('House,' 'Breaking In') Will play Sophie Nance, the owner of the hippest boutique in Venice, who falls in love with the offspring of her family’s archenemies, Chris Carver. Her partner in forbidden, star-crossed love is yet to be cast.
'Venice' is described as a soap drama about the haves and the have-nots of California’s most seductive city. The pilot is being directed by feature film star McG, the man behind the camera on 'Terminator: Salvation,' 'This Means War' and 'We Are Marshall.' McG isn't new to the television game, however: he directed the pilot for 'Chuck' and worked as a producer on the hit series 'Supernatural.'
Greenwood and Annable are joining Jennifer Beals, already cast as the Carver matriarch. The gorgeous Beals is known for her roles on 'The L Word,' 'Lie to Me' and 'The Chicago Code.' Beals is a veteran of television and this trio already makes 'Venice' boast an impressive cast.
Bruce Greenwood can be seen in cinemas soon in the upcoming 'Star Trek Into Darkness' where he will reprise his role of Christopher Pike from the first of J.J. Abrahms 'Star Trek' films.
