Two veterans of supernatural TV series are teaming up to star in a new action/thriller pilot for NBC.
First on the cast list of the new project is "Dana Scully" herself, Gillian Anderson. If the pilot gets picked up, it will mark Anderson's first role as a series regular since The X-Files ended back in 2002. She won't be jumping straight back into the deep end though, as Gillian is already set to play the juicy recurring role of Dr. Lecter's psychiatrist on NBC's upcoming "Hannibal" prequel series.
Joining Anderson as a regular will be Rachael Taylor, who could most recently be seen on the prematurely canceled ABC drama 666 Park Avenue. Fans still don't know what became of her character on that series, although the network is hinting that they'll finally find out this summer.
The currently untitled pilot is being written and produced by "Life" creator Rand Ravich, and will once again see both actresses caught up in a labyrinthine scheme controlled by shady puppet-masters, but this time of the non-paranormal or demonic variety.
The story follows a (yet to be cast) rookie secret service agent who finds himself immediately thrust into an international conspiracy, when the president's son is kidnapped during his first day on the job. Several of the "first" child's classmates are kidnapped along with him, including the biological daughter of FBI agent Susie Dunn (played by Taylor). Dunn is tasked with getting vital information from the parents of the kidnapped children, which presents her with the uncomfortable prospect of questioning her own sister Meg (played by Anderson), who has been raising Susie's daughter as her own.
Something tells me there is a bit more to the plot than that, but I guess we'll find out what's really going on if and when the pilot makes it to air. Either way, I'm very pleased that Gillian Anderson is finally coming back to my TV.
Do you think this pilot sounds interesting? Are Anderson and Taylor good picks for their roles?
I'll be looking forward to this if it gets picked up........
