Do you like Duck Dynasty? Well, singer Morrissey sure as hell does not.
The former Smiths frontman was scheduled to appear tomorrow on Jimmy Kimmel Live (Tuesday, February 26), but instead cancelled at the last moment. Why? Because also booked that evening were the stars of A&E's Duck Dynasty.
Morrissey, who is well known for his feelings about animal rights, decided that he could not in good conscious appear with the Duck Dynasty cast members.
"Morrissey is thankful for being invited to perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live tomorrow, February 26. However, he cannot morally be on a television program where the cast members of Duck Dynasty will also be guests. Morrissey would be honored to play the show, if Duck Dynasty were removed. As far as my reputation is concerned, I can't take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers. If Jimmy cannot dump Duck Dynasty then we must step away."
Duck Dynasty stars the Robertson family, who make products designed to assist hunters in killing ducks.
I have no problem with someone taking a stand like this based on their principles. However, it is pretty lousy to do so to Kimmel at the last minute, less than 24 hours before the episode was going to be taped.
Agreed. Kudos to Morrissey for standing by his personal beliefs, but he really should have let Kimmel know further in advance. Now Jimmy will have to scramble to find a replacement guest.
