AMC’s new period drama, Turn, has cast its lead actor. Jamie Bell, 26, will play the lead role in the revolutionary war pilot set in 1778. Bell, a cabbage farmer from New York, along with a collection of his childhood friends band together to form a group called The Culper Ring. The unlikely bunch forms a group of spies that help to turn the tide in America’s fight for independence. The pilot episode will feature Bell’s character getting caught in the process of smuggling his crop on the black market. He is forced to join the group of spies and the Patriot cause or suffer the consequences of his actions. The show is based off of the Alexander Rose book “Washington Spies: The Story of America’s First Spy Ring”.
Bell is best known for his roles in films such as “King King”, “Jumper” and “The Adventures of Tintin”. His first acting job came after he was chosen out of a group of over 2,000 boys for the role of Billy Elliot, an 11-year-old boy who goes against his father and brothers wishes and takes up ballet. Bell also starred alongside Evan Rachel Wood in the 2005 Green Day video for the song “Wake Me Up When September Ends”. After a break up, and reconciliation in 2011, the couple are now married and announced last month that they are expecting their first child together.
