Have you been watching 'King of the Nerds?' Well if you haven't, you may soon be assimilated... resistance is futile.
The new TBS reality series has aired six episodes so far and its audience is multiplying like tribbles in a grain silo. That popularity has translated into dollars for TBS and the network has responded by renewing the reality competition for a second season.
The freshman reality show is hosted by Curtis Armstrong and Robert Carradine, actors in the cult classic feature 'Revenge of the Nerds.' Growing up nerds themselves, Armstrong and Carradine decided to cash in on the ever-present throng of geeks devouring as much popular culture as possible by hosting a competition for people of particularly unique skill-sets.The official site for the series can be found here.
With competitors split into two teams, not unlike 'Survivor,' the contestants on 'King of the Nerds' face off in challenges such as cosplay costume design or a superhero debate, with each challenge bringing new guest judges to determine the winning side (the judges of the superhero debate were Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, otherwise known as Jay & Silent Bob).
It isn't too late to catch the end of the first season, with five competitors still vying for the Throne of Games... not the Game of Thrones, of course. Along with the regal title and the Throne of Games, the winner of the competition will receive $100,000.
The ratings of 'King of the Nerds' have proven comparable to other TBS hits like 'The Big Bang Theory' and 'Cougar Town,' making the renewal of 'King of the Nerds' a bit of a no-brainer.
'King of the Nerds' airs Thursdays at 10:00pm EST on TBS.
