Proving that it's usually who you know, not what you know, the granddaughter of Academy Award-winning director Elia Kazan is among the cast members added to The CW drama pilot Company Town.
Written and executive produced by Supernatural exec producer Sera Gamble, Company Town picks up shortly after a scandal at a Virginia Naval base has rocked the lives of civilians and military personnel in the area. The multigenerational, multiclass, family, and relationship drama will focus on two women in their early 20s who grew up together as best friends, but now find themselves on opposite sides of the dispute between military and townie.
Maya Kazan, who has starred in several short films, will make her television debut on Company Town in the role of Marla, a frustrated yet wistful artist who is a friend of one of the lead characters, Krista.
Best known for playing the pregnant Rita Roosevelt on FX's Sons of Anarchy, Merle Dandridge has been tapped to play a Navy Division Director named Louise. When the scandal breaks, Louise is suddenly promoted to Commanding Officer of Naval Service Affairs and takes control of the base and personnel.
Since making her TV debut on an episode of Angel, Dandridge has appeared in one-off roles on numerous series including NCIS, 24, CSI: Miami, and Criminal Minds. She will also guest-star in an episode of The CW's Nikita slated to air next month.
Dondre Whitfield, a television veteran who has dabbled in feature films, has signed on to Company Town for the role of Don. A combat-trained trauma surgeon, Don is on staff at the Naval base's hospital and finds himself deeply troubled by the repercussions of the scandal.
Following his first credited role as Vanessa Huxtable's love interest Robert on The Cosby Show, Whitfield went on to appear on a variety of shows such as All My Children, Ghost Whisperer, and Cold Case. More recently, he starred as Coach McIntire on the third season of ABC Family's Make It Or Break It.
Another member of Company Town's Naval personnel, a Navy Chief Petty Officer by the name of Jack, will be played by Arjun Gupta, who has a recurring role as Sam on Showtime's Nurse Jackie. Although his priority is to look after his jet maintenance crew, Jack is privately harboring bigger dreams.
Earlier this month, Gage Golightly (Teen Wolf, Ringer) landed one of the two lead roles as Krista, a child of privilege engaged to a Navy lieutenant named Paul who is involved in the scandal. Taylor Hackford, director of films like Ray and The Devil's Advocate, will helm the pilot.
