A former “Wonder Years” star will soon direct a CBS comedy.

Fred Savage will helm “Jacked Up,” a half hour pilot starring Patrick Warburton. Warburton plays a recently retired baseball player having trouble adjusting to retirement. Greg Malins (“Friends”) will write and exec produce along with executive producer Doug Robinson and producer Warburton.
“Jacked Up” comes from Sony Pictures Television and CBS TV Studios.
Savage will also direct “The McCarthys,” which will center on an Irish- Catholic, sports- obsessed Boston family and its gay son, at CBS. That son’s greatest sin isn’t being gay, but instead is his wanting to spend less time with the family. Jackie Weaver will star in the family comedy.
Brian Gallivan is writing the show, Will Gluck is exec producing and Gallivan and Olive Bridge’s Richie Schwartz are co- exec producing.
Savage is best known for starring in “The Wonder Years” and film “The Wizard” as a young man. His brother Ben starred in “Boy Meets World.”
Savage also recently directed episodes of “Modern Family” and “2 Broke Girls.” Last year he was set to direct Martin Lawrence’s multicamera comedy for CBS, but it was ultimately passed over.
Savage is represented by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman.
