If you're into the numerous controversies that seem to perpetually arise from the late night talk show circuit, you're probably aware by now of the Morrissey/Jimmy Kimmel spat that has been happening this week. If you're not, here's a quick recap: Morrissey was slated to perform on Tuesday night's edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live! However, he threatened to back out less than twenty-four hours before the taping unless Kimmel's other scheduled guests -- the cast of Duck Dynasty -- were removed from the line-up (Morrissey disagrees with their hunting-based personae). Morrissey was subsequently replaced in the line-up by the indie rockers Churchill, and received some jabs from Kimmel throughout the show (to which Morrissey did not respond kindly).
Now, it seems that Kimmel wants some reconciliation. Or, at the very least, he's looking to capitalize on the ratings boost that an on-air confrontation with Morrissey might bring.
"I've found myself in a weird position. I'm in the middle of a celebrity feud with Morrissey... This has nothing to do with people who eat meat versus people who don't," Kimmel said in his monologue on Wednesday night. "I'm completely respectful of people who do not eat meat, but the statement he made is ridiculous."
"I'd like to invite him to join the show to discuss," he continued. "I'm an open, even-handed person, and I consider all points of view... If I keep saying it, maybe it will be true. I've invited him to talk this out, and perhaps we will both be better men for it, but probably not."
Kimmel followed up his monologue with a slightly less diplomatic tweet directed at the former Smiths frontman: "note to Morrissey - if you have more dumb statements to make, I invite you to make them where I do, on my show."
Would you like to see Morrissey on JKL! And, perhaps more importantly, do you think there's any chance in hell of this happening?
