Nero Padilla is coming back for more.
The character, played by the great Jimmy Smits, showed up in Charming, California last season and caused a bit of a stir. The character, a gangster, developed a romance with Gemma (Katey Segal) that drove a lot of last season's plot along. He also helped Jax (Charlie Hunnam) and the SAMCRO deal with some of their enemies.
Today it was announced that Nero will be returning for all 13 episodes in the upcoming season of the series. Showrunner Kurt Sutter wanted Nero to return to the fold, but was not sure if Smits schedule would allow the actor to commit seriously to the project.
"His sort of Latino past and that energy, mixing it into our world, is really fascinating for me," Sutter said at the end of the last season. "I love the relationship that is going on with he and Gemma. There's enough emotional weight on the table, there's enough relationship weight on the table for us to continue that storyline."
In addition to Smits coming back, it was announced yesterday that Donal Logue would be coming back as well in the role of former U.S. Marshal Lee Toric. Toric's sister was murdered in prison by Sutter's character, "Big" Otto Delaney.
Happy with these returns?
