The first official image from Doctor Who's new run of episodes has been unveiled.

The seventh series kicks off in just a few weeks time and to celebrate this fact the BBC has released a brand new image and details about the upcoming episode.

The Doctor (Matt Smith) and his latest assistant Clara Oswald (Jenna-Louise Coleman) ride down The Shard building, among them in the shards of glass are enemies such as the Cybermen and the Ice Warriors and a selection of mysterious monsters.

The new episode that will kick off the series is called The Bells of St. John:

"Set in London against the backdrop of new and old iconic landmarks – The Shard and Westminster Bridge - “The Bell of St. John” introduce a new nemesis, the Spoonheads, who battle the Doctor as he discovers something sinister is lurking in the Wi-Fi.”

In a BBC press release, Steven Moffat, executive producer and lead writer said:

"It's the 50th year of Doctor Who and look what's going on! We're up in the sky and under the sea! We're running around the rings of an alien world and then a haunted house. There's new Cybermen, new Ice Warriors and never before attempted journey to the centre of the TARDIS. And in the finale, the Doctor's greatest secret will at last be revealed! If this wasn't already our most exciting year it would be anyway!”

The new instalment is being described as a “modern-day urban thriller”.

The new series has a strong guest star list which includes: Celia Imrie, Richard E Grant, Warwick Davis, Jessica Raine, Dougray Scott, Tamzin Outhwaite.

The new series will kick off on 30 March.

Before Moffat rapes the saga to death he'll want to take a stab at the Master before stabbing that to death also

I forget what happened a week previously, nevermind moths inbetween episodes. No, I`m not at all excited by this new series as I found the last one quite tiresome. Fingers are crossed that it will be good.

"The seventh series kicks off in just a few weeks time"

Strange...I could have sworn that the 7th "series" had already kicked off, back in Sep.  I remember because there was a big fuss about the Ponds leaving the show at the end of the 5th episode of the 7th season, which was to air at the end of Sep.  I also remember thinking how sad it was that the BBC was adopting American TV's idiotic habit of airing a few episodes of a new season and then taking a *huge* break (6 months, in this case) before airing any more episodes.
