Do not fall for it, Jimmy Fallon! This is how he ruined Conan!
A new report, which NBC has refuted but two high-level sources say is in fact happening, says that the Peacock is preparing for life without Jay Leno. The report says that NBC will announce in May that the 2013-2014 season will be Leno's last as host of The Tonight Show.
The plan, as of now, is to move Jimmy Fallon up from his Late Night program and put him in the 11:35 hour, competing against David Letterman and the man that has reportedly caused this move, Jimmy Kimmel.
A Leno rep said that, "We do not speculate on rumor." However, Kimmel's success at ABC since moving up has cut into the younger audience. “The more time Jimmy Kimmel is in that slot, the more the young audience goes that way, the harder it is for Jimmy [Fallon] to keep that audience,” said a source with inside knowledge at NBC.
Leno's series still leads in the ratings amongst the three shows, but Kimmel's success in the 18-49 demo is apparently scaring the crap out of NBC. "Jay wins overall, but on any given night, it's neck-and-neck in 18-49. I understand where they might have fear and also feel that they own the solution [in Fallon]," said a source at NBC.
