CBS’ new drama is in good hands.
Dennis Haysbert has been lured back to the network for drama “Backstrom.”
“Backstrom” is from Hart Hanson (“Bones”) and is based on a Swedish book series. It is about an overweight, offensive and cantankerous detective trying to improve his self- destructive behavior. Haysbert will play Det. John Almond, a “law dog” working with the title character.
Marg Helgenberger (“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation”) also recently returned to CBS for a fall pilot called “Intelligence.”
Helgenberger will play Lillian, the director of Cybercom (the United States government’s cybersecurity branch), in the drama about the unit created around an agent with a microchip in his brain allowing him to access the electromagnetic spectrum.
Josh Holloway (“Lost”) will star as Gabriel Black, a former Navy SEAL and intelligence officer; Michael Rady and James Martinez (“Breaking Bad”) co- star.
Haysbert starred as Jonas Blaine in military drama “The Unit” for CBS from 2006 to 2009. Prior to that he was best known by some for playing President David Palmer on Fox’s “24,” and to me for playing Pedro Cerrano in the “Major League” movies. He also has appeared in commercials for All- State insurance for several years.
