Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel has landed a role opposite of Kyle Chandler in the Showtime drama The Vatican. While best known for her role as Charlotte "Chuck" Charles on the short lived ABC dramedy Pushing Daisies, Friel has a wide array of acting credits. Friel has worked in everything from television commercials, to music videos, to theatre, to films such as Limitless and Without You. Friel is a recipient of a number of awards for her acting work. She won a National Television Award in 1995, a Drama Desk Award in 1999 and the Royal Television Society Award in 2009.
Friel will play the character of Kayla in The Vatican. Kayla is the younger sister of a cardinal, and lives in stark contrast to her brother’s lifestyle. She is described as a sexually active, hard partying girl from New York. She regularly displays open acts of rebellion against all of society’s norms and institutions, not surprisingly including the church.
The Vatican, which will star Friday Night Lights alum Kyle Chandler as Cardinal Duffy, is a contemporary thriller about spirituality, power and politics set in intricate and private world of the modern day Catholic Church. Friel will also be starring alongside Matthew Goode (A Single Man) and Sebastian Koch (A Good Day to Die Hard).
