CBS cannot get enough Sara Gilbert.
The co-host of The Talk has landed the starring role in a new single-camera comedy pilot at the network, Bad Teacher, based on the 2011 Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake and Jason Segel film. This pilot will not affect her role on CBS's daytime talk show (which she also serves as an executive producer on), however, if it goes to series.
Gilbert will play Irene, an introverted drama and English teacher who is able to overcome her shyness at times but that leads to her being over-the-top and overly eager.
In addition to Gilbert, Ryan Hansen and In Living Color veteran David Alan Grier are also lined up for the pilot.
The pilot is being written by Hilary Winston (Community). She will also executive produce the pilot with Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, the duo who wrote the film. Sam Hansen and Jimmy Miller are also attached as executive producers.
I could see this pilot doing well and becoming a series. I did not love the film, but I think toned down a bit it could work. CBS seems like the right network for it, as well.
Gilbert rose to fame as Darlene Conner on Roseanne.
