The ABC comedy pilot Keep Calm and Karey On has found its title actress. Kelly Preston is signed on to play the lead in the show hailing from writer/executive producer Andrea Abbate (Accidentally on Purpose). Preston has kept a fairly low profile since the death of her son Jett from a seizure in 2009, but the actress appears to be getting back to work. Preston is also set to appear in the John Gotti biopic Gotti: In The Shadow of my Father as Victoria Gotti.
The pilot will center on Karey (Preston), the straight-laced, clean cut woman stuck in a family of “petty thieves, drug addicts and narcissists”. When Karey’s brother is sent to prison, she takes it upon herself to raise his children alongside her adopted black son to try and give them the normal lives they deserve. Jane Seymour (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman) will play Preston’s mom, and she will also be joined by previously cast Majandra Delfino (Roswell).
Preston has mostly focused on films in her acting career, but she appeared on the short-lived Friends spin-off Joey and had guest arcs on Medium and Fat Actress. The pilot is being executive produced Shawn Levy, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements with Gail Mancuso directing.
