Best known for his turn as Benjamin Buford (Bubba) Blue in Forrest Gump, Mykelti Williamson has decided to take his talents south. Provided, of course, that the captain of his new aircraft carrier is okay with that.
He should be - I imagine you could do some terrific shrimping off the side of one of those bad boys.
Williamson will be reteaming with Justified's Taylor Elmore in Elmore's new Fox drama pilot, Wild Blue. The series looks at the lives of 6,000 people living together in a Navy aircraft carrier. Williamson's part in this will be as Command Master Chief Donald Bowman, the senior-enlisted sailor on the carrier.
The series is being described as a cross between ER, The West Wing and Top Gun (way to make it nice and simple there...) Bowman will be the go-between with the officers (upstairs on the carrier) and the enlisted (downstairs), as well as in charge of all the enlisted sailors aboard the ship.
Other actors cast include Josh Salatin, Alano Miller and Will Rothhaar.
Elmore is writing and executive producing the pilot, with Mark Johnson, Michael Dinner and Graham Yost also serving as EPs. Dinner will also be directing the pilot.
Williamson has also appeared in The Righteous Apples, Boomtown, CSI: NY, 24 and in "The Final Destination."
