While at the Austin SXSW film festival, Joss Whedon shared a few of his thoughts about his upcoming S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot. Whedon was at the festival to promote his film Much Ado About Nothing. The film is a modern take on the classic Shakespeare comedy, which SXSW panel moderator Adam Vary called “one of the sexiest things” Whedon has ever done. Whedon replied by joking, “That includes having sex.” When the topic of questioning turned to S.H.I.E.L.D., Whedon joked that the pilot “sucks”, but he then went on to reveal a few details about the show.
Whedon says that S.H.I.E.L.D. will “tap into the visual style and ethos, and even some of the mythology, of the Marvel movies” and will have “more intimate stories that belong on television.” Whedon also said that the pilot will be more about the “world around the superhero community” rather than the superheroes themselves. “For me the most important thing is that people fall in love with it on its own merits, rather than constantly asking, “Is there gonna be an Avenger?” he says. “Well, there’s not gonna be a Hulk because that guy’s too expensive.”
Let’s hope the Hulk isn’t too crushed by the news – you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry.
