ABC pilot Mixology and one of its leading ladies, Mercedes Masohn, are parting ways. Masohn was one of the first actors to be cast in the John Lucas and Scott Moore (The Hangover) project more than a month ago. Since casting Masohn, nine other regulars have been signed to the pilot, but with input from the writers and the director, Masohn’s character has been “tweaked”.
Masohn was cast in the role of Maya, one of ten singles living in Manhattan and looking for love. The pilot is an ambitious effort that chronicles the exploits of five men and five women over the course of a single night at a bar called Mixology.
A statement was released by Mixology producers, saying that “Masohn is an incredible talent with comedy chops and has been very accommodating and understanding with us, and we plan to be working with her again soon.”
Since Masohn has left the pilot, she is now free to book another one, and is already fielding several different options (some of which are projects at ABC). . “It was such a pleasure working with Jon, Scott & Larry who are true comedic geniuses, but it is unfortunate that things change quickly as a pilot moves into production,” Masohn said. “And on this project, Jon and Scott moved the role in a very different direction, and it became clear this wasn’t right for me. Rather than jeopardize the show, I asked to step aside. They and ABC were very understanding, and I wish them all the best with the show.”
