Long live the queen of the CW’s “Selection.”
Louise Lombard (“CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” “Stargate Universe”) has joined the show, based on Kiera Cass’ book.
The pilot is an epic romance set 300 years in the future about America Singer (played by Yael Grobglas), a young working- class woman chosen by a lottery to participate in a contest to become the next queen. Twenty- five other women are in the contest looking for the Royal Prince’s hand. Kind of sounds like “The Bachelor.”
Lombard will play the current queen, Queen Amberly. She is described as refined, intelligent and beloved by her people, and is a politician in the palace who knows everything about all the girls in the competition.
Leonor Varela played the queen in the original pilot last year. The CW produced a pilot last developmental season, but now decided to retool it for this season.
“The Selection” is written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, and directed by Alex Graves.
Anthony Stewart Head will reportedly play King Clarkson, ruler of the future nation.
Lombard also recently appeared in BBC film “Dripping in Chocolate.”
Lombard is represented by Paradigm and Affirmative Entertainment.
