The tough, no-nonsense Judge Judy Sheindlin will be finding herself on the other side of the bench following a lawsuit that has been filed against her by a woman named Patric Jones. Jones, whose former husband Randy Douthit is a producer for Judge Judy, claims that Sheindlin owes her money for some fine china.
Jones claims that her former husband sold Sheindlin the couple’s expensive china for $50,000, although Jones claims it is worth $514,421.14. The sale of the tableware was done without the consent of Jones, and so she now claims that Sheindlin should return the china to her or pay her the remaining value she believes she is owed. In addition, Jones is seeking punitive damages, claiming that ex-husband Douthit had agreed to reduce his profit participation on Judge Judy so that he would not have to give Jones as much money in their divorce settlement.
Sheindlin does not seem very worried about the lawsuit. "I have not seen any complaint by the former Mrs. Douthit, however, I don't owe this lady a cent," says Sheindlin. "And if this 50-year-old woman would spend her time more productively at trying to find a job, instead of abusing the judicial system with frivolous lawsuits, we would all be a lot better off."
