After a year and a half of silence, NBC’s a cappella singing competition The Sing-Off will be returning for a fourth season. The news was announced today by Sing-Off producer Deke Sharon over the phone to EW. “I am happily able to confirm that casting is going on. The show is back!” said Sharon.
After season three of The Sing-Off underperformed in the ratings department NBC passed on picking it up for a fourth round in 2012. The show was never officially cancelled and in its time off the air the popularity of The Sing-Off has gone through the roof. Winners of the third season, Pentatonix, have become massively popular online and the success of the film Pitch Perfect (Deke Sharon arranged the music for the film) has given the genre of a cappella a new appeal.
Season four will be backed by Mark Burnett Productions and the format of the show will return to the holiday format as was used in the first two seasons. Nothing has been announced yet about whom will host and judge the show, which was hosted by a myriad of stars in its three year run, including Nick Lachey, Sara Bareilles and Nicole Sherzinger.
