Mary Queen of Scots’ right-hand-man has been cast. Rossif Sutherland has officially joined The CW drama pilot Reign, which tells the untold story of Mary Queen of Scots’ rise to power, and he will play the role of the Queen’s wizard prophet – Nostradamus.
Reign will begin in France when Mary Queen of Scots’ is only 15 years old and betrothed to Prince Francis. The series aims to show the previously unknown and highly secretive life of the Queen and her life in the French Court surrounded by foes, dark forces and a world of sexual intrigue.
Other names signed on to co-star in the pilot include Adelaide Kane, Toby Regbo, Celina Sinden, Jenessa Grant, Megan Fellows, Caitlin Stacey and Anna Popplewell. The pilot, helming from CBS TV Studios, will be written and executive produced by Stephanie Sengupta (Outlaw) and Laurie McCarthy (CSI: Miami) with Brad Silberling on board to direct.
Sutherland, the son of iconic actor Donald Sutherland, previously starred in the short lived Canadian series King in 2012. Sutherland also had a year-long arc on ER as Lester Kertzenstein from 2003 to 2004. Sutherland has been in numerous films since his acting debut in 2003, including indie films I’m Yours and The Con Artist and received his break through role in the film Poor Boy’s Game in 2007 opposite Donald Glover.
