Steven Bochco's 'Murder In The First' casts leads

Taye Diggs and Kathleen Robertson are set to take down a killer.

Deadline reports that the two actors have been cast in the lead roles of producer Steven Bochco's latest foray into crime drama, the forthcoming TNT pilot "Murder In The First."

Diggs ("Private Practice") will take on the role of Terry Seagrave, the homicide detective dealing with a complicated and taxing home life as his wife deals with a terminal illness. Seagrave's work is his escape from the heartache of home, taking his mind off the sadness and giving him a chance to positively impact the world around him. Robertson ("Boss") joins him as Hildy Mulligan, Terry's partner on the job, confident and effortlessly sexy without even knowing it. Mulligan has a similarly complicated home life as a divorced single mother of a young daughter, though she is mindful of Seagrave's own troubles.

The new series will be a serial drama in the vein of AMC's "The Killing," following the investigation and eventual prosecution around two seemingly unrelated high profile murder cases in contemporary San Francisco. Seagrave and Mulligan take on the case that at first seems open and shut, but quickly becomes a complex maze with many players.

The pilot is written by Eric Lodal ("Lawless") and drama veteran Bochco, a high profile name in the crime procedural genre with the classic series "NYPD Blue" and "Hill Street Blues" to his credit. Both will serve as producers should the series get picked up by TNT.
