We all knew that a one time appearance was never the Brentmeister General's style.
Just as Ricky Gervais' much-loved character from "The Office" is poised to make his return to television on the BBC's Comic Relief special comes news that David Brent will be indulging in all new adventures on YouTube.
Gervais announced that he has signed a deal with the online video powerhouse to develop a wealth of new material, some of which will feature the former Wernham-Hogg boss man.
The actor, writer, and producer lauded YouTube for giving him the opportunity to create and distribute the original content without interference of television executives or film producers. "Any artist will tell you that they want as many people to see their work with as little interference to that work as possible," he said. "To create, get final edit, and be the broadcaster is the ultimate artistic experience. This is why I have partnered with YouTube for original programming. And because of all that money they gave me too, obviously."
Gervais' 25000 subscribers will get access to not only content that will feature Brent, but also exclusive sketches and behind the scenes dispatches from his film and television projects. "Working with YouTube is a fantastic opportunity for new content to be made available without the limitations of schedules and international restrictions," Gervais said. "Viewing habits are changing. And anyone who doesn’t realise that will be left behind. I am very excited to be working with a platform that is so instant and accessible. And to catch up with David Brent is going to be fantastic."
