Well that was fast. Mere days ago, we reported that Tom Berenger had signed on to co-star in the FOX drama pilot 'Gang Related'. What a difference a few days makes, as it's been confirmed that the Emmy-winning actor has already left the project.
No official explanation for the move has been provided, but the speculation is that Berenger had creative differences with producers, and had different ideas about how his character should be presented. Also, Berenger apparently didn't mesh well with the other actors at a recent table read.
The 'Hatfields & McCoys' star was set to play no-nonsense police chief Sam Chapel, head honcho of the San Francisco P.D.'s "Gang Task Force". The series centers around Ryan Lopez (Ramon Rodriguez), a gang member sent by his bosses to infiltrate the aforementioned task force.
Berenger is best known for his work in films like Platoon, Major League, Gettysburg, and The Subsitute. Following the 1990's, his profile declined sharply, and it has long been said that he can be a hard and uncompromising man to work with. Although that assertion, like anything written online that doesn't come directly from a named source, should be taken with a grain of salt.
Do you think 'Gang Related' would have been a better show with Tom Berenger in the cast?
Hard to say if he's being difficult or it's the other way around. Think he would've been great in the role though, so a shame.
