ABC is apparently going ahead with its potential Once Upon a Time spinoff.
The network has signed consulting producer Jane Espenson and Zero Hour's Zack Estrin to multiple-year overall deals. They will now be working on the effort, which is now Wonderland-themed. Espenson will serve as a consulting producer on that series, while Estrin will be an executive producer.
They join Once Upon a Time creators and executive producers Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz on the project. That duo will also be writing the pilot.
This series will focus on the Mad Hatter (who has been portrayed by Sebastian Stan on Once Upon a Time). He is expected to continue in the role, as producers say that they have ”no plans" to recast anyone.
A teaser presentation will be shot next month, where a decision will be made to move to pilot or not. If it does go to pilot, it will be filmed late this summer.
No one new has been cast yet; however, they are looking for actors and actresses to portray Alice, The Knave and Amahl.
If the project does not move forward, Espenson and Estrin will work on original projects for ABC under their overall deals.
Does this spin-off sound like a good idea to you?
why don't they just renew once upon a time for a season 3 no need for a spinoff
