Mamie Gummer headed to 'Backstrom'

The cast of a CBS drama pilot is filling out.

Mamie Gummer

Mamie Gummer (“Emily Owens M.D.”) will play the female lead in “Backstrom.”

“Backstrom” is from Hart Hanson (“Bones”) and is based on a Swedish book series. It is about an overweight, offensive and cantankerous detective trying to improve his self- destructive behavior. Rainn Wilson (“The Office”) will play the title character.

Gummer plays Nicole Graveley, a detective who is openly gay and is sad over her breakup with a longtime partner. She’s nicknamed “The Angel of Death” by local media for shooting out three bad guys who shot at her. She understands Backstrom better than anyone on the unit and is surprisingly close to him.

“Emily Owens M.D.” was canceled by the CW three months ago. Gummer played the lead character, a first year intern at Denver Memorial Hospital working with her crush and high school nemesis.

Dennis Haysbert has also been lured back to the network for “Backstrom.”Haysbert will play Det. John Almond, a “law dog” working with the title character.

Gummer also has appeared on ABC’s “Off the Map,” and recurred on “The Big C” and “The Good Wife.”

Gummer is represented by CAA and Anonymous Content.
