The ladies of 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' are going to be reunited on a sitcom stage one last time.
Mary Tyler Moore, Valerie Harper and Cloris Leachman will be appearing on 'Hot in Cleveland' in guest appearances, joining series star Betty White with recurring player Georgia Engel rounding out the group. This quintet of comedic talent will be brought together on 'Hot in Cleveland' under the plot point that Elka (played by White) and Mamie Sue (Engel) wish to get their old championship bowling team back together, the GLOB; Gorgeous Ladies of Bowling. They reunite with former team members Diane (Moore), Peg (Leachman) and Angie (Harper). Elka and Mamie Sue lost contact with Diane, Peg and Angie when the team had a falling out after their big championship went to their heads.
The upcoming episode of 'Hot in Cleveland' marks the first time that these five women will be united on screen since the end of 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' way back in 1977. Moore has previously appeared on 'Hot in Cleveland' without Leachman and Harper, however she played a different character--Elka's cellmate in jail.
News of the reunion follows swiftly after Valerie Harper announced she has been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Harper is best known for playing Rhoda on 'The Mary Tyler Moore Show' as well as her spinoff series 'Rhoda,' so a reunion with the castmates that helped launch her to stardom is a fitting tribute to an impressive career.
'Hot in Cleveland,' which is headlined by Betty White, Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick, returns from hiatus with a live episode on June 19. The popular sitcom was recently renewed for a fifth season by TV Land.
