'Today' show will air interview with Jerry Sandusky

Jerry Sandusky

NBC revealed yesterday that they have plans to broadcast excerpts of an interview with convicted sex offender and former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky in a segment on the Today show Monday. The excerpts have been taken from part of Sandusky’s interview with documentary filmmaker John Ziegler, who is working on a film about Joe Paterno.

In the interview clips, Sandusky will be giving his own account of the encounters and events that led to his prison sentence and will discuss his former boss, who was accused of covering up allegations against Sandusky to preserve the reputation of the school’s football program. Sandusky was convicted of 45 counts of child sexual abuse last summer, and is serving out his 30 to 60 year prison sentence at Greene State Prison.

Ziegler said Friday that he interview Sandusky over the phone on several occasions, through letters, as well as in person at Greene State Prison. While Ziegler ha confirmed that he will be sharing the taped excerpt, he would not disclose what they would reveal in detail. However, NBC says that Sandusky will “describe what he says happened on the campus and what he thinks of whistleblower Mike McQueary and late head Coach Joe Paterno.”
