The team behind the film “Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters” is reteaming for a TV project.

Ferrrell McKay

Writer/ director Tommy Wirkola and production company Gary Sanchez’s Will Ferrell and Adam McKay have set the untitled project up at Showtime.

The half- hour dark comedy is now in development and based on a 2012 Norwegian series called “Hellfjord.” Wirkola created and produced “Hellfjord” with Kjetil Omberg, Terje Stromstad and Stig Frode Henriksen through Tappeluft Pictures.

Wirkola, Henriksen and Zahid Ali wrote the original seven- episode series and will write the new adaptation. Wirkola would direct the pilot and exec produce with Ferrell and McKay.

“Hellfjord” is interestingly described as like “Hot Fuzz” and “Twin Peaks” with a Nordic noir twist. In it an Oslo police officer (played by Ali) is banished to remote and weird fishing town Hellfjord after a freak horse accident.

“Hellfjord” stars Ali and Henriksen as of now are not expected to act in the new series.

“Hansel & Gretel” Witch Hunters” stars Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton and grossed over $200 million worldwide at the box office. It is a retelling of the classic folk fairy tale.
