Jonathan Taylor Thomas talks about giving up his stardom

JTTCould you imagine being arguably the hottest thing going to an entire generation of young women and then giving it all up?

Very few people alive fit the first part of that profile; an even smaller number meet the second.

One man that does fit that mold though is Jonathan Taylor Thomas. For a while, JTT was everywhere. As one of the stars on Home Improvement, his image was unavoidable. Yet, he made the decision when that series wound down to give it up.

"I'd been going nonstop since I was 8-years-old," he recently said. "I wanted to go to school, to travel and have a bit of a break."

Following his stint as Randy Taylor, JTT enrolled at Harvard University and studied philosophy and history. After his time there, he migrated to Columbia University and graduated three years ago. The experience at each university was drastically different for the star than his previous life (he did some guest appearances during that time, including Smallville and Veronica Mars).

"To sit in a big library amongst books and students, that was pretty cool. It was a novel experience for me," he said, adding that, "I never took the fame too seriously. It was a great period in my life, but it does not define me. When I think back on the time, I look at it with a wink. I focus on the good moments I had, not that I was on a lot of magazine covers.”

Now JTT is getting back in front of the small screen, as he appearing last night with his former TV father Tim Allen on Last Man Standing. Will JTT become larger than life again?
