Big changes possibly coming for two 'The Following' characters this week (SPOILERS)

Fox freshman series The Following is drawing quite the mixed reaction online, as some people think it is amazing and others have already given up on the Kevin Bacon starring vehicle.

Speculation is that this week's episode is going to see some major changes for at least two characters. As you can likely imagine, this article will contain some series spoilers. Read at your own risk.

Jacob (played by Nico Tororella) was last seen crossing a threshold and greeting Emma (Valorie Curry) in an ominous manner. Jacob's coldness is explained by the killing of his best friend Paul (Adan Canto), says Tortorella.

"I really feel like everybody should consider him a threat now at this point," he said. "He's got blood on his hands now and I feel like Jacob just wants more at this point."

Jacob committed a "mercy kill" with Paul, which the actor says is "definitely a huge turning point for Jacob. Emotionally, [killing Paul] just completely broke him down. But at the same time he recognized that's what he needed to do. ... As much as the threesome [among Jacob, Paul and Emma] wasn't about sex, this kill isn't really about killing. It's about love."

Now Jacob is out for revenge and wants to make everything better in his world. Expect to see his role with the Followers change, growing in stature.

In addition to Jacob, Claire Matthews (Natalie Zea) is going to have an interesting night. Ryan Hardy (Bacon) tries to protect her when a group of Followers goes after her, even enlisting some help from an old friend.

"There's some pretty nasty mayhem that goes down," Zea said. "In the end, there's a surprising ... move on Claire's part. This episode begins a major shift for her. [It's] sort of the beginning of New Claire. She begins to embody a kind of strength that wasn't quite as apparent before. She begins to take control and she realizes that she has to get in on the game, and she has to learn how to play the game. ... She gets a little fierce."

Zea says that rescuing Joey is her character's main motivation.

"That's all she thinks about," she said. "That's the only thing that's motivating her to do anything right now. ... She would do anything to get Joey back. Absolutely anything."

The Following airs Mondays at 9/8c on Fox. Sound good to you?
