A TV veteran has become a late addition to NBC’s untitled Craig Robinson comedy pilot.
Jean Smart replaces Jane Adams (“Wonder Boys”), who exited last week after a table read. Adams is a Golden Globe nominee for her role on HBO’s “Hung.” Adams was only on the project for a couple of days.
Smart (“Designing Women”) plays Jeannette, a high- strung junior high principal. She’s constantly trying to do damage control at the school.
Greg Daniels (“Parks & Recreation”) and Owen Ellickson (“The Office”) are exec producing the single- camera comedy. Ellickson wrote the script.
The show focuses on musician Craig (played by Robinson), who has to adjust to being a music teacher in a middle school in a big city. He has to navigate teacher politics and resist the temptation of single mothers.
Robinson’s credits include “The Office” and “Pineapple Express.” He will soon appear in projects “Rapturepalooza” and “This Is the End.”
Smart recently recurred on “Hawaii Five-0” and “Harry’s Law.” She will also soon appear on the Lifetime movie “Call Me Crazy: A Five Film” as Claire, which will also star Jennifer Hudson and Sarah Hyland.
Smart is represented by WME and Untitled.
