TBS has renewed an original comedy it took over from ABC.
“Cougar Town,” the fourth season of which debuted on the cable network this year, has received an order for 13 episodes of season five, which will air in 2014.
“Cougar Town” was co- created by exec producer Bill Lawrence and consulting producer Kevin Biegel. It has averaged 2.8 million viewers and 1.7 million adults age 18-49 in Live+7 ratings, making it TBS’ top original primetime series ever for total viewers and in the demographic.
“Cougar Town” also is drawing younger viewers in season four than the ABC season three by a median age of seven years.
“Cougar Town has been everything we hoped it would be: a smart, big-hearted, laugh-out-loud comedy that shines a bright light on the TBS brand,” Michael Wright, president, head of programming for TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies, said in a statement.
Courteney Cox, Christa Miller, Busy Philipps, Dan Byrd, Ian Gomez, Josh Hopkins and Brian Van Holt star in the series. Cox and ex- husband (and former WCW world wrestling champion) David Arquette are also executive producers.
The season four finale will air Tuesday, April 9, at 10 p.m. on TBS.
