'One Life to Live' loses actors to 'General Hospital'

Michael Easton and Kristen Alderson

Two of One Life to Live’s most popular players won’t be around to celebrate the shows new home online. It has been confirmed that Michael Easton and Kristen Alderson, who reprised their roles on General Hospital while Prospect Park ironed out the details for the online version, will not be returning to their old stomping grounds when the soap makes its debut on The Online Network on April 29th. ABC has made the decision to keep both actors on General Hospital instead – but they will be in different roles.

The characters played by Easton and Alderson are owned by Prospect Park, however, they were temporarily released to ABC who continued to employ the pair after One Life to Live was cancelled in January of 2012. The characters of John McBain and Starr Manning, joined by Todd Manning (played by One Life to Live co-star Roger Howarth) became popular additions to the General Hospital cast. Earlier this month ABC released the following statement:  “General Hospital is excited about Easton, Alderson and Howarth staying on the show, and we are exploring ways to allow that to happen.”

According to a high-level executive, Prospect attempted to work out a deal to share the characters between shows, but it did not work. Prospect wanted Alderson to work only a single week on OLTL before returning to GH, while they needed Easton for up to a month before he would be free to resume his GH schedule.

For fans of One Life to Live, it is a sad loss. For the folks over at General Hospital, the permanent addition of these actors should make fans pretty happy.
