You know those annoying parodies of the old British "Keep Calm & Carry On" posters from the second World War? Those incessant jokes and permutations of the theme that stopped being funny in 2010? Well get ready for one more: ABC's upcoming pilot 'Keep Calm & Karey On!'
Rhys Darby, known as Murray, manager of 'Flight of the Conchords,' has landed a co-starring role in the single-camera comedy pilot. Kelly Preston ('Medium,' 'Old Dogs,' 'Casino Jack') will play the eponymous Karey, a clean-nosed upstanding citizen in a family of petty criminals and thieves. Darby will play Karey's husband, helping her with the daunting task of raising her brother's children along with their own, once Karey's brother lands himself in prison. Karey and her husband endeavor to raise these children as law-abiding citizens with normal lives... but will the children, who have been raised to cut corners and break the law, go along with the new company line?
Preston has largely been floating from small television role to the next for a few years, so this pilot is a huge chance to reestablish herself as a comedy presence. Darby is already quite respected in certain comedic circles although this role is a huge opportunity to become better known in American households.
