After a recent trip to an orphanage in Beijing, China while filming the TLC special 19 Kids & Counting: Duggars Do Asia, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar admitted that they may decide to expand their super-sized family even further through adoption. That of course does not mean that the couple are also adverse to the idea of having another child naturally.
Jim Bob and Michelle’s last pregnancy sadly ended in a miscarriage in 2011, and the couple have begun to think about alternative ways to grow their family. "We are open to the idea of adoption," says Michelle. "We are praying about it, and we will see what God has in store. Love for children has been placed on our hearts."
Michelle says that this idea is shared by all of the members of her family, most importantly the rest of her children. "The kids are definitely pushing towards wanting us to open our home up to another child or more," Michelle says. "They see how much we have been blessed with and how little so many children have and they want to share. We tell our children that would have to be something that is God's will for our family, and we will see if it is. Our children love children, and we all do."
The couple have been through their fair share of heartache in the past few years, between the premature birth of their daughter Josie and the miscarriage of their most recent pregnancy, and so they feel open to any situation that may come their way. "It doesn't really matter whether I would have another child or we would adopt, but we want to approach it with an open heart," she says. "We have friends that have adopted children who are a great influence in our lives, and we have talked about their experiences. So it's something we've considered. We have to know for sure that is what God wants for us to do."
