The lovely Regina King (known for her roles on 'Southland' and 'The Boondocks') has joined the upcoming ABC comedy pilot 'Divorce: A Love Story.'
The very funny King will add some veteran comedic talent to a cast that seems somewhat unproven. Centering around a couple who were toxic together and find they are even worse apart, 'Divorce: A Love Story' follows Kenny (Jason Jones of 'The Daily Show with Jon Stewart') and Robin (Andrea Anders 'Mr. Sunshine,' 'Necessary Roughness'), a recently divorced couple who must now wade through the murky waters of how to break-up when you still love the person you're trying to walk away from.
So where does King come in to play? King will play Cassandra, a dental hygienist diva wife of Ike (Adam Goldberg, 'NYC 22'), who is Kenny's best friend. Did you follow all of that? King's casting takes second-position to her ongoing role on 'Southland;' it would seem that the character of Cassandra will act more as a supporting role rather than being called upon to carry the brunt of any particular episode. 'Southland' is presently airing its fifth season and the proven success of the program could carry it into a sixth and beyond.
Ben McKenzie and Shawn Hatosy, two of King's 'Southland' co-stars, have also booked broadcast pilots in second-position, much like King has with 'Divorce.' This could mean that 'Southland' will be wrapping up at the end of season five, though TNT has yet to make an official decision in either direction.
