The daughter of disgraced former Democratic Presidential candidate John Edwards will appear on NBC this evening on Rock Center, where she will discuss her father's affair with Rielle Hunter and how it ripped their family apart.
Cate Edwards says she was "devastated" when she found out the truth and has a relationship with her half sister Frances Quinn (the result of the affair), who she considers "a part of our family."
This is Cate's first interview since John's 2012 trial over using campaign funds to support Hunter (the case was dropped). Cate talked to Today's Savannah Guthrie during the interview and discussed her relationship with her father.
"I did not fault my dad for the trial," said Cate. "He made those mistakes, there's no question, but I never, never thought he did anything illegal. So I didn't think (the trial) was right."
Edwards came clean about the affair with Hunter in 2010. Hunter had served as a campaign videographer. Their daughter Frances was born in 2008.
"She's my sister, and she’s just a really sweet, innocent little girl," said Cate. “I certainly think of her as part of our family."
Edwards' wife Elizabeth died of cancer in December 2010. Hunter, in her biography, put some of the blame on John's cheating on his wife for being "crazy."
"I thought it was a poor choice, I guess, is all I can say," Cate said, of Hunter's description of her mother.
The segment airs tonight at 10 p.m.
