Shain Gandee, breakout star of MTV's reality series 'Buckwild,' was found dead in a truck in Kanawha County today. Two other bodies were also located, according to The Charleston Gazette.
Authorities received a missing persons report for both Gandee and his uncle after the pair failed to return home after a night of drinking which ended at 3:00AM on Sunday morning. After searching for the pair throughout Sunday, the family of Gandee contacted the police, who found the body of Gandee and two others early Monday.
Gandee, aged 21, rose to fame thanks to the popularity of 'Buckwild,' a series which garnered harsh criticism for allegedly stooping to play up harmful stereotypes about people who live in West Virginia. Gandee and his uncle, David Gandee (48) were last seen at Larry's Bar in Sissonville at about 3 a.m. Sunday, and said they were planning to go four-wheeling in the younger Gandee's Ford Bronco. Shain Gandee's Bronco, with oversized tires, was one of many vehicles featured on 'Buckwild' which promoted Gangee's character as a "redneck MacGuyver," showcasing the young man building things like a swimming pool made from a dump truck.
Gandee, an avid outdoorsman, eschewed modern technology like cellphones and computers, had nothing to do with social media and loved taking his truck "mudding," hunting and going four-wheeling. The premiere episode of 'Buckwild' featured one of Gandee's "mudding" adventures.
There is yet no word on cause of death of the three people found deceased, nor whether or not any foul play is suspected. More on this story as it develops.
