Following the renewal of the new Disney Channel hit 'Jessie,' Disney suits have renewed mainstay 'Austin & Ally' for a third season.
Ally Dawson (Laura Marano) is a young songwriter; Austin Moon (Ross Lynch) is an overnight singing sensation. What's the connection? It was one of Ally's songs that made Austin famous. The pair develop a friendship as well as a business partnership, struggling with how to maintain Austin's newfound stardom. Interestingly enough, the characters of Ally Dawson and Austin Moon actually appeared in two 'Jessie' episodes as part of a Disney Channel crossover--very smart marketing considering the key demographics of both programs.
Production on 'Austin & Ally's third season will begin in July, keeping its pair of young stars in the spotlight. Ross Lynch has a role in an upcoming feature aptly titled 'Teen Beach Movie' (can't argue with giving people what they want) and Laura Marano has already appeared on hit shows like 'The Sarah Silverman Program' and 'Dexter.' At age seventeen, Marano has already built up an impressive cinematic resume as well, appearing in films like 'Superbad' and 'The Jacket' with Academy Award winner Adrian Brody.
'Austin & Ally' is TV’s #1 series in Kids 2-11 (2.3 million/5.9 rating), Kids 6-11 (1.9 million/8.1 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (1.8 million/7.7 rating).
