An Australian actor has been tapped to play the lead singer of INXS in a biopic.
Luke Arnold, who currently is starring in Michael Bay pirate adventure “Black Sails,” is negotiating to play Michael Hutchence in “Never Tear Us Apart: The INXS Story.”
Shine Australia is producing the biopic for Oz’s Seven Network.
The biopic, which will be two parts and four hours long, will trace the rise of INXS, and also the aftermath of Hutchence’s death in 1997, which was ruled a suicide while depressed and under the influence of drugs and alcohol. There have been claims he actually died of autoerotic asphyxiation.
The show will shoot in Melbourne, Australia, later this year.
INXS to date have sold more than 30 million records worldwide. After a reality show called “Rock Star: INXS,” the band recorded and toured with J.D. Fortune, the winner of the competition. They continued on and off with Fortune until announcing last November they would no longer be touring.
Arnold is in Cape Townright now playing Long John Silver in Starz’ eight episode pirate tail set 20 years before Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island.”
Arnold is represented by WME, Caliber Media and LMCM in Australia.
