Coming in May from TLC is 'Breaking Amish: Brave New World,' a spin-off series from the controversial reality show 'Breaking Amish's first season. 'BA: Brave New World' reunites the original cast members of 'Breaking Amish' for a new direction, as they pursue new lives for themselves in Florida. But wait... if 'Brave New World' reunites Abe, Rebecca, Kate, Sabrina and Jeremiah, what makes it a spin-off and not a sequel? Well because TLC is also bringing back the original series 'Breaking Amish' come the fall.
Production on a second season of 'Breaking Amish' will begin shortly, featuring a new group of "young Amish and Mennonite men and women who are eager to live a life beyond the limited upbringings they’ve known." Or, a new group of Am-lets (trademark Weird Al Yankovic).
The original season of 'Breaking Amish' drew the ire of many due to their stereotypical portrayal of Amish and Mennonite people, as well as the seeming disrespect shown to the beliefs of these groups. Later, after the series became a smash hit (with 3.2 million viewers on average watching the first season), accusations were levied that the premise of the series was a lie and that many of the cast members had actually been living in the big city for a number of years. Despite the controversy, 'Breaking Amish' continued to collect new viewers and TLC is banking on that same group of fans returning for more with 'Breaking Amish: Brave New World.'
Will you be tuning in to see the old cast reunited in 'Brave New World?'
