Disney XD has picked up the pilot of the live-action comedy 'Mighty Med' for a series order. Inspired by the world of comic book superheroes, 'Mighty Med' is a multi-camera comedy about two best friends, Kaz (played by Steven Perry of 'Good Luck Charlie') and Oliver (played by Jake Short from 'A.N.T. Farm') who, while hanging out at their favorite comic book store, inadvertently discover a secret wing of a hospital that caters to superheroes and comic book characters. Eventually the pair end up helping out at Mighty Med, the superhero hospital, part-time after school.
Adam Bonnett, Senior Vice President of Original Programming at the Disney Channel, weighed in on the decision to take 'Mighty Med' to series:
"Our Disney XD audience will go on a journey with these characters, two comic book fanboys whose love and knowledge of sci-fi, fantasy and superheroes land them the coolest after school job ever--working at Mighty Med, a hospital for superheroes."
Fresh faced actor Paris Berelc will play Skylar Storm, one of the superheroes in need of Mighty Med, and Devan Leos ('Madea's Witness Protection') will play supporting character Alan. 'Mighty Med' is created by Jim Bernstein ('Phineas and Ferb') and Andy Schwartz ('Scrubs'); the pair also act as Executive Producers on the series. The pilot of 'Mighty Med' was directed by Eric Dean Seaton, who has directed seven episodes of Disney Channel's 'Austin & Ally,' which was picked up for a third season earlier this week.
