A Vietnam drama is in the works at Starz.
“Airbourne” comes from writer Gideon Yago (“Newsroom”) and “Spartacus” exec producer Rob Tapert, and is a coming- of- age story at the start of the Vietnam War.
“Airbourne” follows a wet- behind- the- ears helicopter crew fighting for survival, their sanity, souls and each other in a world devolving into anarchy.
Yago, who is a former MTV News and CBS News writer and correspondent, is represented by CAA. He was also an MTV VJ for a time.
"Even though we are using Vietnam and the early days of air cavalry as a backdrop, our hope is to bring the audience timeless stories about what makes a hero and how a group of young people fight to retain their humanity in the midst of a surreal and terrible conflict," Yago said.
"This project explores events that continue to be a relevant and engrossing point of conversation today," Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director of Starz, said. "The experiences of these young men and their fight for survival are being brought to life by Gideon Yago and Rob Tapert in a way that has not been done."
Tapert will exec produce, and Aaron Lam will produce it for Starz.
