First trailer for Ian McKellen/Derek Jacobi sitcom 'Vicious'
Sir Ian McKellen and Sir Derek Jacobi are moving in together! The veteran British actors head up an elite cast for new ITV sitcom "Vicious," for which a teaser trailer was released today.
The series features McKellen and Jacobi as Freddie and Stuart, a bickering old gay couple who have lived together for fifty years. Once pursuing careers in acting and bartending, respectively, their golden years now largely consist of reading, walking their dog, and sniping back and forth.
Filming for the series coincidentally took place right as the British Parliament voted on the issue of gay marriage, giving same sex couples in the UK equal status under the law. "They passed the law while we were filming," said Gary Reich, managing director of the production company Brown Eyed Boy heading up the series. "We got the news to the actors and Ian and Derrick announced it to the studio audience: 'While we are doing this show, across the river they just changed the law.'"
"ITV is thrilled this exciting and bold sitcom, with stellar performers and writing talent is to join the increasing slate of new-look comedy shows on the channel," said ITV’s Myfanwy Moore.
The teaser also features Frances de la Tour ("Hugo," "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire") as the couple's best friend Violet, as well as Iwan Rheon ("Misfits," "Game of Thrones") as new neighbor Ash.
While no official premiere date has been announced, the Radio Times reports that the series will likely start towards the end of April. Check out the preview below and let us know what you think!
