After the death of Shain Gandee, MTV decided to pull the plug on its series Buckwild.
J.P. Williams, a producer on the show, is furious at this decision, as MTV had recently given all the cast member substantial pay raises and had no thoughts of pulling the plug before Gandee's sudden death. (NOTE: Williams also serves as a manager for the cast members)
"This is the network that has shows about teen pregnancy. They'll stick by a show that allows you to abandon a child, but a kid dies by accident doing what he does for a living [mudding], and they cancel the show?” he said. “There's something that smells of s--- here on every level."
MTV pulled the plug about a week after Gandee's body was found in a vehicle, alongside his uncle and a friend after they passed away due to carbon monoxide poisoning.
Williams says the series will NOT be ending, and that the network announced the cancellation four days after telling him that it would be coming back.
“There was no explanation,” he says, adding that the network did not call the cast members to tell them the decision. He intends to continue filming in the interest of the show being picked up somewhere or turned into a feature film.
"My job is to protect these kids,” he said. “This will get ugly.”
Do you buy this? To me, it seems like he is angry they cannot capitalize on Gandee's death.
