Comedy Central orders 12 episodes of 'Brody Stevens: Enjoy It!'
Brody Stevens, stand-up comic and close buddy of 'The Hangover' trilogy star Zach Galifinais, has landed a cherry deal: twelve episodes of his own documentary style comedy series on Comedy Central. 'Brody Stevens: Enjoy It!' will be Executive Produced by Galifinakis and has been ordered by Comedy Central for twelve episodes.
Stevens remains relatively unknown to those who don't closely follow the stand-up circuit. He has worked as the audience warm-up act for both 'The Best Damn Sports Show Period' and a whopping 185 episodes of 'Chelsea Lately,' while still touring with his own act when he's able. 'Brody Stevens: Enjoy It!' was first taken to HBO, as Galifinakis has a first-look deal with the subscription network. After HBO passed on the series, the project was taken to Comedy Central.
Six 15-minute episodes of 'Brody Stevens: Enjoy It!' were filmed for HBO Digital and aired online; this new deal with Comedy Central includes that footage and it will be rereleased on Comedy Central as part of the twelve episode order. Each fifteen minute HBO Digital episode will be expanded to fit the half-hour timeslot Comedy Central has alotted. Despite Stevens being a professional stand-up, Comedy Central is hyping 'Brody Stevens: Enjoy It!' as a dramatic comedy.
The official release explains that 'Brody Stevens: Enjoy It!' "follows the emotional roller coaster life of stand-up comic Stevens as he pulls his life back together after suffering a mental breakdown that is witnessed by his fans and the world via Twitter. He makes the rounds in LA, with pal Galifianakis and others in tow, including Sarah Silverman, Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim, trying to reconnect and reconcile with the close friends he let down. The series combines a mix of live stand-up footage, documentary footage and animation."
Stevens will next be seen as a contributing act to the stand-up comedy special 'The Half Hour' later this year. Here is a sample of Stevens' odd brand of comedy he performed at the Laugh Factory:
