It looks like the arrow found its mark.
Game of Thrones delivered the best episode (so far) of its third season on Sunday night, with the darkly comic episode "Walk of Punishment." As it turns out, that episode delivered record ratings for the series as well.
4.7 million viewers tuned into the show's 9 p.m. inital airing, a massive step up from the 4.27 who tuned into last week's episode, "Dark Wings, Dark Words." It beat the show's previous highest-rated episode (season 3's premiere episode, "Valar Dohaeris") by almost .4 million viewers. That's a pretty massive jump for a series to make, especially this early on in the third season.
With the perfect blend of comedy and tragedy that "Walk of Punishment" provided, it seems likely that the show will retain this new high figure of viewership -- though whether next week's episode, "And Now His Watch Is Ended" (which promises to be pretty exciting in its own right) bests Sunday's ratings high remains to be seen.
What did you think of "Walk of Punishment"? How about that shocking ending?
The next episode of Game of Thrones, "And Now His Watch Is Ended," will air Sunday at 9/8c on HBO. Will you be tuning in?
