A premium cable network announced the pickup of a second season of a popular series.
Starz is moving forward with more of “Da Vinci’s Demons.” CEO Chris Albrecht made the announcement following a strong series debut performance Friday, in which 2.14 million total viewers tuned in over the Starz Original’s premiere weekend, a record for the network.
The historical fantasy is created by David S. Goyer and produced by Adjacent Productions. It follows the “untold” story of Leonardo da Vinci during his turbulent youth in Florence during the Renaissance.
Production is expected to start in Wales in May, and the on- air return to Starz will be in 2014.
“’Da Vinci’s Demons’ serves up action, adventure and history in a unique and highly entertaining way that only someone like David S. Goyer can,” Albrecht said in a release. “The first season premiered to strong audience engagement and we are excited to bring the next chapter of Leonardo da Vinci’s adventures to audiences around the world.”
“I'm excited that we get to continue the adventures of the world's most eccentric and glorious polymath. Long live Leonardo and thanks to Starz for helping to make it happen,” Goyer said in the release.
